I am a developmental optometrist seeing patients of all ages. A large majority of my practice is pediatric cases that involve Visual Dysfunctions which get in the way of reading, learning and overall achievement. Most people think that 20/20 is equal to perfect vision, however there are over 17+ visual skills required for classroom learning. Seeing clearly at 20 feet is only one of these skills. Beyond Developmental Vision Evaluations, I also offer Visual Training to allow a safe place for patients to learn and explore these visual skills. Often children have lots of trouble following or keeping on a straight line while reading and they continue to skip, repeat or lose their place. This is often due to a tracking issue-often these patients are labeled “dyslexic”. Some patient have trouble teaming their eye-when we look at something at near like a book the two eyes should turn inward and point towards the subject of regard. Many of my patients have trouble doing this and they often see double when reading-they complain of blur, headaches, words moving/wiggling, sometimes they are called lazy or diagnosed with attention issues because they can’t or won’t sit for this bear task. Vision Training helps to alleviate these issues.
